Amaal Nuux Releases Music Video for Single “Coming and Going”

Date:

Rising Somali-Canadian talent, Amaal Nuux, proved that visuals can uplift an already impressive piece of work with her new music video for “Coming and Going”. The legendary director Kat Webber, best known for her work with Drake’s “Nice For What” and SZA’s “Garden”, was the creative direction for this video. She yet again exceeded expectations as “Coming and Going” is nothing short of a creative masterpiece.

Opening with Super 8 footage of beautiful scenery encompassing a house on the hills, the video then dramatically switches to cinema grade footage as soon as Amaal’s dreamy vocals kick in. This effectively creates something that is as visually appeasing as it is sonically appeasing. The story of the video itself is subject to personal interpretation with recurring motifs of the impermanence and cycles of love being represented through imagery. This is specifically inclusive to white doves flying off to the sky and a shifting time of day, all greatly executed. The video continues to shift between Super 8 and cinema grade footage amidst all the effects and set pieces. This not only accentuates audio transitions from verses to choruses, however, it also keeps the video fresh and fascinating through its entire duration.

“Coming and Going” is the second single from Amaal’s forthcoming debut project that is set to release Summer 2019. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia and immigrating to Toronto, Canada at a young age due to the hardships of the country’s civil war, Amaal has made her mark in the music scene in a very inspirational manner. She’s proved herself to be a formidable force in the music industry despite the many difficulties that come with being a first-generation immigrant. It is perhaps this aspect of her upbringing this learned strength and resilience that reflects the raw, unfiltered, and genuine nature in her music which is expressed in not only “Coming and Going”, but her entire discography in general.

Amaal is a very talented and promising musician, and this video is a step in the right direction for great things to come.
