What better way to spend a Friday night than seeing one of the most versatile bands in the rock scene while simultaneously reliving your emo phase? That’s how everybody at the sold-out Gramercy Theatre spent theirs.
You Me At Six brought their tour to NYC with support from Machineheart and DREAMERS, and with it being just the second night of the tour, excitement and energy were sky-high for both the artists and the crowd. Indie-pop outfit Machineheart kicked off the night with a short but high-energy performance. Their catchy songs and strong frontwoman Stevie Scott reminded me of Transviolet and Elohim, all while keeping a distinctively different sound. Between being on this tour and releasing their newest album in early February, Machineheart is definitely a band to keep your eye on in 2019.
Following Machineheart’s set was rock trio DREAMERS who certainly had a number of diehard fans in the audience. Who can blame them, though? With a live performance like theirs, I could see them countless times and never get bored. Nic Wold, Mark Nelson, and Jacob Lee Wick are all incredibly talented musicians who got the audience more hyped with some more familiar songs like “Sweet Disaster.” Their set was the perfect transition from the more pop sounds of Machineheart to some of the heavier ones of You Me At Six.
YMAS’s set kicked off with the first track of their new record IV, “Fast Forward.” The fast, dynamic track was the perfect way to kick off their set, especially showcasing Josh Franceschi’s incredible live vocals. Their set continued with “Lived a Lie,” “Reckless,” and “Loverboy,” all to which the packed house jumped and screamed along to without tiring. The setlist was a versatile and diverse one; certainly well-curated. The songs from the 18-song long setlist spanned the band’s entire discography and catered to both newer and older fans. Whether you knew just one song or all of them, the show was an incredible time. The set ended with “Underdog”, which seemed to be many people’s favorite song.
Overall, You Me At Six put on an incredible show in NYC on Friday. As long as they keep this second-night energy throughout the tour, I have no doubt that the tour will continue to be extremely successful. Don’t miss out on seeing them, check out dates here!
