LIVE REVIEW: Sam Smith Brings The Thrill Of It All To Infinite Energy Arena

Date:

Sam Smith brought his The Thrill Of It All Tour to the Infinite Energy Arena this past week. With a tour titled after his highly successful, sophomore album, “The Thrill Of It All,” the singer set the emotional tone that was yet to come for the evening.

With fans cheering from all sides of the arena, Sam Smith rose slowly mid stage while singing the words of one of his most personal songs, “Burning.” As the lights beamed directly at Sam, the singer sang about his heartbreak and excessive smoking . While seated and having such a simplistic intro, Smith’s voice did everything that was needed to grab the audience’s attention.

In a world where numerous of arena shows are filled with crazy light-effects and props, Sam Smith used a simplistic, yet very memorizing stage. In the shape of a triangle, where certain sections would rise or lower for effect. That is truly all the singer needed, for the emotion in his voice displayed and captivated every single person in the venue. As the singer recreated the vocals from the studio version of “Lay Me Down,” the crowd sang along to the chorus creating a magical moment within the arena.

Despite having a lot of emotional moments, there were indeed some not so sad moments as well. From a funky rendition of his past hits “Omen,” leading us to the middle of the setlist where Sam performed four back to back upbeat songs starting with “Money On My Mind,” and ending with “Baby, You Make Me Crazy,” the singer revealed this his voice is quite versatile.

With an encore consisting of three, final songs. The singer served vocals while keeping up with his amazing stage presence. Despite hearing several painful songs, the night was filled with so much unity and beauty. Sam Smith willĀ  keep you in constant awe of his beautiful, unique voice, forcing you to beg for more.
