On November 21st, I caught up to the Wonder Years tour featuring Motion City Soundtrack, State Champs, and You Blew It! With a photo pass in hand I made my way up the stairs of the Masquerade to Heaven, the main stage of the venue. There may not be very many tours to have the experience of playing the iconic Masquerade, the heart of Atlanta’s music scene, since the venue will be closing. Rumors of the venue moving to a new location are talked about in between sets during every show, especially since the year is coming to a close. Motion City Soundtrack front man Justin Pierre even paused the show for story time, where he told us how honored he was to be playing the Masquerade. He had seen one of his favorite bands there, and could not believe he was playing the same stage. Many small speeches like this were made throughout the night, where nostalgia seemed to be the theme. It didn’t hinder the crowd’s energy, or any of the bands’ performances though. I have only been in Heaven twice before, but never have I seen so many crowd surfers. The security guards were on the move all night, making sure the show-goers stayed hydrated, and landed safely after catching them once they reached the stage. You Blew It!, State Champs, Motion City Soundtrack and The Wonder Years are all bands you do not want to miss on this tour. Bring your energy and your vocal cords in order to have a good time, but always keep an eye on the person next to you.
